Smart Campus of the Future: Computer Science Student Hackathon

On the 3rd March, Michael Heeney, Kelly Androutsopoulos and Serengul Smith organised a Hackathon at Middlesex University for our Computer Science, IT, AI and Data Science students. Students worked in teams to design and develop innovative prototype solutions on the theme of “The Smart Campus of the Future”. Their problem-solving abilities, creativity, and technical expertise were outstanding. We are very proud of every student who took part and helped make this hackathon such a remarkable success.

Congratulations to Kamil Gzyl and Ritesh Sechania, who were voted the winning team for their multi-authentication registration application, which uses RFID for card authentication and OpenCV for facial recognition. Kamil and Ritesh won Amazon vouchers, funded by the faculty.

A total of 39 students competed on the day, and there was further interest. Next year, we plan to run another, larger hackathon with industry sponsors and prizes.
